In The Face Of Death And Resistance
What is the purpose of an artist? Of a writer? Of a creator? Of an individual? How is one called to action?
What are the many faces of resistance?
There exists no singular answer. This, the first issue of -ismo Magazine, explores the complexities of those questions.
For many, it provoked a moment of introspection and careful consideration: ‘What has already been lost and what can be salvaged?’ Others called upon their right to an autonomous body and the agency therein to explore sexuality and sensuality. Some chose to situate themselves in the context of the home, their land, their being—rich enclaves of in-betweens. Herein lie the answers to the probing inquiry: “In the face of death and resistance, where do you stand?”
We are beyond excited and so inspired by each of the eighteen pieces that have responded to this theme, but mostly we are honored. We are honored to share a space with contributors who continuously redefine resilience. Who stand true and refuse to stay silent. And who ultimately keep creating.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen.
And without further ado,
We bring you the first issue of -ismo.
We hope it brings you light,
